robben mark bommel

Bert van Marwijk has a new challenge. He has to get all his players physically fit for the first World Cup game but he also has to freshen up the heads of the three CL finals players. Arjen Robben: “In all honesty, I have to make an effort to enjoy football at the moment…”

Robben thought he had two days off after the lost CL finals against Inter. But the powers that be thought differently. To start off with, the Bayern fans wanted a celebration of their heroes. That was day one and the second day, Van Gaal decided to organize another training session.

Robben: “Again, honestly…no one really felt like this celebrarion thing. But it was highly impressive after all. For us players, we felt like we lost. But our fans felt we had a great season and if you look at it like that, we did have a wonderful season… You could see the impact of what we have established, which is pretty wonderful. But…I thought to have a break. I thought the next day we’d say our goodbyes but the coach insisted on a post-match walk session… So, I don’t have a break whatsoever…sigh…”

,Robben shared a car with Mark van Bommel, to drive from Munich to Seefeld in Austria. The Bayern skipper: “We have only one objective with Oranje. That’s why I wanted to go to the group as soon as possible. I didn’t talk with the lads much. Some text-messages, that’s it. I focused fully on the CL finals. And I still feel that uneasy feeling of knowing we missed a unique opportunity.
